The risk of righteousness (and a final goodbye)
Hi everyone,
Jasiel here. You are receiving this final note because you signed up for the Tech Ecosystem Prayer Walk at the Nairobi Arboretum that happened yesterday, Tuesday, Feb 10th.
(If you missed the last four notes in this series, you can find them linked Week 1 here, Week 2 here, Week 3 here, and Week 4 here.)
First, the final level-set: This was not a ministry launch. It was not a church-led event. My heart for this hour was simply that we pause our striving, to find investors, to hire talent, to spot the next unicorn, and just spend an hour with the One whose breath is in each of us.
(The Promise: After this email, I won’t send you any more emails. I know your inbox is as busy as mine. However, if I can ever pray with you on anything, you have my email, don’t hesitate to reach out.)
Reflections on the Morning After
It’s been a full 24 hours since yesterday’s prayer walk, and I am still trying to wrap my head around it.
First, thank you. Thank you to everyone who signed up, read these emails, or prayed with us from your homes and offices. And, of course, thank you to the 30+ of you who showed up yesterday for an hour so early in the morning.
I will let you in on a secret: Yesterday was great, but also profoundly convicting.
I made an intentional decision not to track "open rates" for these emails because I didn't want this to become a metrics game. I honestly didn't compute that 100+ people were actually reading. So, to see 30+ people show up and to run into countless others all day at the events who said they were following along, reminded me that God can do a lot with simple obedience.
But here is the conviction: I don’t feel like I should be the one leading these prayer walks. I couldn’t shake the feeling of "Imposter Syndrome", that my own walk isn't perfect enough to lead others.
But God doesn't seem to care about how I feel about my own worth. He just wanted to do something different during ATS week.
Certainty vs. Conviction Last night, my friend Toyin said something that struck me, and I hope it encourages you for the rest of the year:
“Christianity is not about certainty, it’s about convictions.”
I wasn’t certain anyone would need something like this. I wasn’t certain I should be the one organizing this. But I was convicted to step out of my comfort zone and take a risk.
Isn’t it funny? In our jobs as investors and founders, we are required to take risks, fund risks, and support risks. But with God, we are often reticent to be "risk-forward."
Maybe, like me (and King David), you think, “my sin is ever before me” (Psalm 51:3), so taking a risk for God feels out of reach.
But I will tell you what my mother told me yesterday:
“For the righteous falls seven times and rises again.” (Proverbs 24:16a)
I don’t know what happened the last time you took a risk for God. I don't know what besetting sin rings in your ears every time you try to step out. But be encouraged that rising again is the mark of a righteous person.
And isn’t it beautiful that our righteousness isn’t in our ability to be "good," but in the Son of God who is Good and died so that we may be made righteous? (Romans 3:23-26).
The Next Step
Since more than a few people have requested this, I will be back in your inbox a year from now with the second annual ATS prayer walk.
Until then, as always, join me in being Holy as Christ is Holy.

Some Final Housekeeping
1. Finding Community (Tech) If you are based in Nairobi and want to meet more Christians in Tech, my friend Lemuel is the founder of Faith Foundry Tech and co-hosts a monthly Christians in Tech mixer. That is a great way to maintain community after this final email.
2. Finding Community (Church) If you are in Nairobi and don’t have a church home (or are just visiting town one sunday), a few of us attend Ruach West, which meets at the Movenpick Hotel.
Times: 8:00 AM or 10:00 AM.
Come through. You don’t have to be a "church person" to show up. God can and will meet you where you’re at.
3. The Most Important Thing Peradventure you have been receiving these emails but you don’t know Jesus as your Lord, or you have fallen away from the faith for a myriad of reasons. Today is a great day to come back. Shoot me an email with your phone number or WhatsApp. It would be my distinct honor to lead you back to the One who, before you were ever born, paid the price to call you a Child of God.
4. Some Charles Spurgeon Sermons Finally, yesterday, I mentioned a couple of times that I have been listening to read sermons of this 19th century preacher, Charles Spurgeon. Here are a couple that I enjoyed. Hopefully it is helpful:
